aKeep cleaning to a minimum by spot-cleaning. If you spill something, wipe
it up. Do this every time and you'll have to wash the whole floor less often!
aMake house rules about eating locations. If you allow your family to
eat only in the kitchen or dining room you won't have to clean crumbs all over the house. If this is a new rule, and your family is used to carrying
food all over the place, allow some training time for it to take effect. You could get rule-breakers to do the cleaning - it's surprising how
effective that can be!
aWhen you do have to clean, do it in the cool of the morning.
aMake sure all sports equipment is washed and ready to go the morning of
the game - no last-minute mania!
aPlan easy meals for dinner. When you barbecue, cook enough chicken or
meat to make sandwiches or salads the next night. Cook pasta in the morning, toss it in some salad dressing, throw it in the fridge, then add
veggies and leftover meat at suppertime. Voila, dinner.
aNow is the time to check out the convenience foods at the grocery store.
Sit down once a week with a nice cool drink and plan your meals for the week, shop according to your meal plan, and avoid the hassle of staring
into the fridge every evening wondering what to eat!
aOnce a week, make and freeze sandwiches for the entire week - save a few
minutes each morning.
aHang your clothes out to dry - enjoy the fresh smell, and save energy and
heat by not running your dryer.

What to do with your found time in the evenings?
a
Check out the local community centre's pool schedule. A family swim in the evening can cool everyone off and you'll enjoy the time together.
aTake your coffee out onto the front porch and visit with your neighbours.
aRead a book set in a cool climate, listen to cool jazz, let the kids water
your bare feet when they water the flowers.
aGo to a movie and enjoy the air conditioned theatre.
aEnjoy the summer - it's over far too quickly!
